Small Gift Box

This small gift box could also be a favor box and you can make it in many sizes.

Put your gift or favor in the center of the tissue paper and place it in the box for a lovely presentation.

You can use it for any holiday or occasion simply by changing the color of the decorative paper on it.

Think of using it at Easter with a handle, or for Mothers Day, a wedding, a baby or wedding shower, a tea party, Christmas, Thanksgiving, or Halloween.

Just add candies and/or nuts or small favors.

Cardboard, Cereal Box, or Card Stock Square

1. Start with a square piece of cardboard or card stock. This box was made with cardboard like that on a pack of designer paper.

This 9 inch square piece of cardboard makes a 3 inch square box.

2. Divide the square into thirds both horizontally and vertically, so there are 9 squares.

3. Score across the bottom of each side piece, and top and bottom piece.

4. Cut 4 squares of colorful paper that are 1/4 inch smaller than the squares on the box.

My box has squares that are 3 inches, so I cut the colored paper into 2 3/4 inch squares.

5. With double sided tape, attach a colored square to each of the outer squares, making sure that the bottom of the design is closest to the center square.

Center the paper on the cardboard square.  Burnish the paper to be sure the tape adheres.

6. Punch a hole in each of the top 2 corners on each outer square.

7. Cut 4 lengths of ribbon or twine about 10 inches long.

8. Fold each side on the score line, to the center and crease sharply.

9. Bring 2 adjacent corners together, thread ribbon or twine through the holes and tie into a bow.

10. Cut 1 or 2 pieces of coordinating tissue paper into 10 inches by 12 inches (for the 3 inch square box).

Place the gift or favor in the center of the tissue, gather the sides up around it, and place it in the small gift box.

Adjust the corners and edges of the tissue paper as needed.

For a larger size box, the tissue paper will also need to be larger.

Always start with a square, and divide it into thirds to create this box.

You could use Christmas cards or greeting cards cut to size instead of designer paper.

Today we are going to create an attractive Christmas gift box in Adobe Photoshop. This will create in a very simple even a beginner of Photoshop can make this easily. There is no need of any extra skills for this. We will use here some vector tools and gradient from layer styles. Red color will be use for gift box and yellow for wrapping. As you all know that red color is the color the Christmas if you analyze things related to Christmas mostly all those would be in red color e.g. Santa, caps etc. so we are using red color in the order to evoke the spirit of the Christmas in this tutorial. Follow the steps and create your own Christmas gift box and leave your comments regarding this.

Create new document which size should be 600 x 450 pixels and color mode RGB.

Select rounded rectangle tool from toolbar and change radius value in option window and make that 4 pixels. Then draw that rounded rectangle with changed value on your canvas.

Apply linear gradient and bevel effect on rounded rectangle using following layer settings windows.

Here are values of gradients and location

After apply both effects you will see this on your canvas.

Again select rounded rectangle tool with same radius value (4 pixels) and draw on the top of existing rounded box. Apply same effects which we have applied in Step 3 but one effect of drop shadow will be added on this box which settings you can see in following window.

Now this image you will get after implementation of drop shadow.

Our box is almost ready in step4 and now in this step we are going to wrap it now. Draw now a rectangle and give yellowish gradient layer style on this.

Apply these values with on mentioned locations for gradient

Now place this rectangle vertically and horizontally center on the rounded rectangle which we created in step 2. You will get this view now.

Duplicate rectangle of step 5 and reduce the height of this and place on the upper box like this.

And then again select ellipse tool and select Subtract command from Option bar and draw new oval on current like this shape.

Now rotate this oval shape using CTRL + T and then make mirror of this. So you will find shape like this.

Now select both layers of ovals and press CTRL + E for merge them and apply gradient and shadow from layer style windows.

Use below mentioned gratient color values

Give these values in drop shadow settings

After that you will find this effect.

Now select the banner shape from custom shapes

Now unhide the boxes layers and bring all them to front of these shapes.

This is the final step in which we have applied a background on gif box and you can give your desired backgrounds just like this.
